Ingredients:
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups milk
- 1 vanilla pod or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup sugar for the caramel
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).
- In a saucepan, place 1/2 cup of sugar and heat over medium heat until it melts and turns into caramel (be careful not to burn it).
- Once the caramel reaches a golden color, carefully pour it into the bottom of the molds (or baking dish) you’re using for the crème caramel.
- In a bowl, whisk the eggs with the remaining 1 cup of sugar and vanilla until the mixture is smooth and fluffy.
- Heat the milk in a saucepan (do not let it boil), and slowly pour it into the egg mixture, stirring constantly.
- Pour the mixture into the molds over the caramel.
- Place the molds in a large baking dish and add water around them (about halfway up the sides of the molds).
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the custard is set and a toothpick comes out clean from the center.
- Allow the crème caramel to cool and then refrigerate it for at least 2 hours before serving.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges of the molds and carefully invert them onto a plate.
Enjoy!
