The story

Our story goes back to the ‘60s. It starts at the exact same place, in Elia, where our grandfather Nikos and our grandmother Evangelia had a small chicken farm.

A decade later, the first professional egg farm in Crete was built on the field. The area’s natural elements have always been interconnected with our family and the farm. The vineyard and the surrounding area became the home of our family project with our 10,000 hens!

As the years passed the family business evolved always with passion and creativity, with know-how and professionalism. The Syntichakis family’s next generation took action and in the 1980s collaborations with hotels and the egg trade kicked off. By the end of the ‘80s the farm had reached 50,000 hens and there were 3 different production units.

In the 1990’s two important changes took place in the company: Crete’s first egg candling centre was created and soon a compost and manure processing unit was built. These were two major steps in the company’s acceleration and progress. Also, the compost unit significantly reduced industry waste making us a greener company.

Now, the family farm Syntichakis has completely adapted and modernised according to European standards while offering free-range eggs as well as organic. In addition, our egg farm has zero waste while our business respects the community and the nature of Elia.
