Iced Christmas cookies are a true holiday classic. Buttery, lightly crisp, and perfect for decorating, they turn baking into a joyful, creative moment that feels just as festive as the final result.
Ingredients
For the cookies:
- 250 g butter, at room temperature
- 150 g powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 400 g all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
For the icing:
- 200 g powdered sugar
- 2–3 tsp water or lemon juice
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the oven: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Make the dough: Beat the butter and powdered sugar until creamy. Add the egg and vanilla and mix well.
- Add the dry ingredients: Combine flour, baking powder, and salt, then gradually add to form a soft dough.
- Shape the cookies: Roll out the dough to about 0.5 cm thick and cut with festive cookie cutters.
- Bake: Bake for 10–12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden. Let cool completely.
- Icing & decoration: Mix powdered sugar with water or lemon juice until smooth and slightly thick. Decorate the cookies and let the icing dry.
Tip: Add sprinkles or sugar decorations for an extra festive look.
